Jesus said to visit those in prison…
While most of us are not actively involved
in prison ministry, we can minister to the
residents of Lebanon Correctional Institute
in a special way.
Bake Cookies for Kairos!
What is Kairos?
Kairos Ministries is a Christian organization that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ with those in
prison.
Why do they need cookies?
Twice a year, Kairos sponsors a Christian retreat weekend at Lebanon Correctional Institute.
Cookies are served with coffee and tea to soften the first tense minutes of the retreat. At the end of the
evening, each resident takes dozens of cookies back to share with others. Cookies are provided to the
security stations, break rooms, and staff offices to let the prison staff know they are loved by God. All
prison residents not involved in the retreat also receive cookies. This takes 4,000 dozen cookies.
Retreat participants receive a grocery sack of cookies on Friday night to share with others. By this time,
everyone in the prison knows something special is going on with Kairos.
Why should our troops participate?
AHG has been participating in the “Cookies for Kairos” service project since its’ founding; last year
our girls provided over 800 dozen cookies to this ministry. This is an opportunity to share God’s love
with people who really need to hear about the unconditional love and forgiveness of Jesus. The fact
that people care enough to bake these cookies is a powerful message for the participants.
How can our troop help?
Girls in participating troops make 2 dozen cookies according to the following guidelines:
Cookies can be chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, sugar, M&M, or snicker doodles.
Brownies and Rice Krispie treats can be sent too. Slice and bake or mixes are okay. Storebought
are not.
Cookies should be 2-3 inches in diameter and sturdy. Let cool complete before handling.
Kairos cannot accept cookies with raisins, icing or powdered sugar due to prison restrictions.
Cookies should be placed in clear gallon-sized Ziploc bags of 2 dozen per bag. Please do
not put cookies on paper plates. Mark the bag with the type of cookie. Do not decorate the
bags.
Pray. Prayer is a necessary ingredient in Kairos Cookies. As you bake, ask God to use your
cookies as a source of His love to shine on the prisoners and staff during the Kairos weekend.
Where do we take the cookies?
Bring the cookies to the AHG Office on the drop-off days. The Kairos Ministry picks up the cookies
to use during their retreat weekend.
